Drinking Water Week, May 3–9, 2026, shines a spotlight on critical drinking water infrastructure and highlights the dedicated workers and community investment required to provide safe and reliable water service.
Drinking water underpins the health and economic vitality of communities, and keeping water systems reliable is a round-the-clock commitment and significant expense. Water utilities must renew aging infrastructure, protect source water, prepare for climate and security risks—all while continuing to deliver high quality, reliable water every day. According to a new report by the American Water Works Association, U.S. drinking water infrastructure and other critical needs will require $2.1–$2.4 trillion over the next 25 years, testing the limits of water affordability in many places.
It is Medford Water’s mission to safeguard public health by providing a reliable, high-quality water supply at the best value, now and into the future. We’ve already begun this work to maintain and strengthen the system that serves 150,000 Rogue Valley residents across Central Point, Eagle Point, Jacksonville, Phoenix, Talent, Ashland, White City, and the Elk City Water District, including:
- Replacement of aging infrastructure (parts of our system are over 100 years old)
- Maintenance and expansion of existing facilities
- Construction of new resilient facilities that store, treat, and transport water to our customers
We understand that the water pipes running beneath our streets are usually out of sight, out of mind, but they are critical for public health and the success of our businesses. The investments we make today will allow future generations in the Rogue Valley to continue to thrive, just as we benefit from the water investments made by residents decades ago when our system was just being built.
