Can You Imagine a Day Without Water?

Water powers people. From farmers growing the food we eat to local businesses fueling our economy, water is the essential foundation that keeps our community moving forward. But too often, we don’t think about it until it’s gone—when a main breaks or other emergency occurs, and the tap runs dry.
Today, October 15, 2026, communities and organizations across the country come together for Imagine a Day Without Water, an annual day of action to recognize the essential role water plays in our lives and the people who work every day to keep it flowing. Each year, this day invites us to recognize how crucial our need for water really is by visualizing life without it, just for one day. Reliable water isn’t just about convenience, it’s the foundation of public health, economic growth, and community resilience.

Most Americans agree that investing in water is essential, and support for prioritizing reliable water access has reached a new high. We are committed to this issue as well, and we’ve invested millions in projects to expand treatment and storage capacity at the Robert A. Duff Water Treatment Plant, increase transmission and storage capacity to customers, and modernize treatment for potential emerging contaminants. This will allow us to create a water system that is more resilient to earthquakes, drought, and climate change, and serves our region into our second hundred years.
