Air in Water Due to Increase of Flow in Transmission Line to Meet Demand After Power Outage – May 28, 2025

UPDATE: Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 4:35 p.m. – Power has been restored at the water treatment plant and it is again running at full capacity.

Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 12:35 p.m. – Earlier today, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Medford Water experienced a power outage at the Robert A. Duff Water Treatment Plant due to ongoing construction activities. Staff has been working with Pacific Power on any repairs, however it may be some time before the system is fully functional. The plant is still operating thanks to large commercial generators, its production capacity is currently limited.

In response to this limited capacity to treat water from the Rogue River, it has been decided to return our Big Butte Springs (BBS) Line #1 to full flow. This process is normally done gradually to allow air in the pipe to escape before making it to town, and ultimately, our customers.

However, because of the urgency of the situation, this will be accomplished at an accelerated pace, creating an excess of air in the water. This may cause it to appear cloudy; the cloudiness is due to air bubbles and does not impact the high quality of our water, which remains safe to drink throughout our system.

In addition to Medford water customers, this message also applies to properties within Central Point, Eagle Point, Phoenix, Talent, Jacksonville, and White City.

We will provide updates as they become available. For more information, contact our Customer Service Department at (541) 774-2430 during normal business hours. For an after-hours emergency with your water service, call (541) 779-7611.
