Are You “2 Weeks Ready”? – Making an Emergency Plan
- September 8, 2025 | Category: Customer Service, Your Water
National Preparedness Month is a great opportunity to make sure you and your family are 2 Weeks Ready when an emergency or disaster occurs.
How do you prepare to be “2 Weeks Ready”?
Being 2 Weeks Ready means having a plan and enough supplies—including water—for you and your household to survive on your own for a minimum of two weeks. The Oregon Office of Emergency Management’s (OEM’s) 2 Weeks Ready program empowers Oregonians to take the following steps:
- Make an Emergency Plan
- Build an Emergency Kit
- Be Informed
Preparedness begins by making a plan; thinking about what each person in your home might need and understanding the risks you might encounter. The goal is to make sure everyone in your household is ready. When everyone is prepared for unexpected situations, it can save lives and make it easier to go back to your usual routine faster.
Learn how to develop an Emergency Plan at Ready.gov. Discuss the plan with your household, loved ones, friends and neighbors, and practice the elements of the plan so you’ll be ready when a disaster occurs.

National Preparedness Month is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. Experts recommend that Oregon citizens proactively prepare to be self-sufficient for at least two weeks after a disaster, known as “2 Weeks Ready”. This is because first responders may not be able to reach everyone impacted within hours or even days afterward, especially in the event of a Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake.
