Treatment plant operations fully back in service
Early in the afternoon of Tuesday, August 12, 2014, the Robert A. Duff Water Treatment Plant was temporarily taken out of service by what appeared to be power surge issues. This plant provides treatment to Rogue River water, which supplements the Medford Water Commission’s Big Butte Springs water source during the summer months.
Efforts were immediately undertaken to determine the underlying cause of the problem. When a full determination appeared to be unlikely by Tuesday evening, an alternative was pursued to temporarily eliminate non-essential treatment with ozonation, while continuing to provide all essential treatment.
This action proved successful, enabling the plant to supply its full allocation of safe drinking water during the highest water usage times of day that occur during evening and early morning hours. After the high demand period had passed, at approximately 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, August 13, the treatment plant was taken out of service for further evaluation. The sources of the excessive power loads were found, and the issue resolved by 1 p.m.
The Duff treatment plant and all of its treatment capabilities has been restored, and it is now fully back in service.
