Medford Water Commission - 541.774.2430
Lead and Copper Report 2016

There is virtually no lead in Medford Water Commission’s two water supply sources. Rather, lead and copper leach into water over time through corrosion, coming from pipes, solder, fixtures, faucets and fittings. The Environmental Protection Agency requires systems like Medford Water Commission monitor for lead and copper levels at 30 customer taps in single family residences built between January 1, 2983 and June 30, 1985.  Those houses are selected because of the greater likelihood lead solder was used in their household plumbing systems. Testing is conducted every three years; the last set of samples was collected and tested in 2016.

The results of 2016 testing can be accessed at the link below. The results show Medford Water Commission is in full compliance with EPA requirements. Lead and copper regulations are based on action levels of 15 parts per billion for lead and 1300 parts per billon of copper. To be in compliance, only one house in ten can have lead or copper levels that exceed the action levels. All houses tested had lead and copper levels below their actions levels. Even the highest copper level (1200 parts per billion) was below the action level of 1300 parts per billion. And the highest lead level (1.37 parts per billion) was far lower than the action level of 15 parts per billion.
