NOTICE - water outage tonight - Ohio Street

What is the cause of the shutdown?  The leak is in a 20 inch steel water line on Ohio Street between Court and Boardman Streets.  Repair of this will require closing off water to pipelines in some of the surrounding area.
When will construction occur?  We are currently awaiting the delivery of special shoring equipment in order to safely make the repair. The repair will be scheduled as soon as possible after this equipment arrives. We will attempt to do this work during nighttime hours between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., but the growth of the leak may not enable repair to occur on a pre-planned time line. To the greatest extent possible, we will notify you in advance of the actual time of the outage once it is known. Current plans are to begin work at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015.

How will this project impact you?  Your property will be without water service while the repair is being done. Street access will also be impacted in the immediate area.  Following the repair, you might briefly notice some particles dislodged from the pipeline or air in the water. These will pass naturally, or you can run some faucets for a few minutes to remove them.

Are there any actions you should take before the outage?  Following are some examples of measures you might take to accommodate being without water service for this period of time:
  • Finish water-using activities before the time of the outage.  Consider the impact to equipment such as heating/cooling systems, beverage equipment, ice machines, etc.
  • Place pitcher(s) of water in refrigerators for drinking.
  • Pouring water into toilet bowls from buckets placed nearby will enable some clearing of toilets during this time.
Will this be the last outage that you can expect?  We are optimistic that this effort at repairing the leak will be successful. A more comprehensive pipe replacement project may ultimately be needed in this area, but that is not anticipated to occur for at least a year.

Who should you contact if you have additional questions or concerns?  You can call our Operations Superintendent, Ken Johnson at 541-774-2680, or our customer service staff at 541-774-2430. We will also have information and updates available on our website.

We recognize that this project will inconvenience you, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through necessary repairs.
