Construction work to cause temporary reduction in water service in northeast Medford
On Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. the following morning, there will be reduced water service in the Medford neighborhood bordered by Crater Lake Avenue to the west, Delta Waters Road to the south, just east of Springbrook Road to the east, and just north of Owen Drive - see MAP.
Commission staff will be installing a large valve on Crater Lake Avenue in the vicinity of the Burger King Restaurant. When doing so, water service in the area will be fed through a smaller pipeline than normal. This will result in reduced service capacity to the neighborhood for approximately eight hours.
Reductions in water service will begin at 9:00 p.m. and will continue through the night. Every effort will be made to complete the project by 5:00 a.m. the following morning.
In order to lessen the impacts of reduced water service, neighborhood residents should make sure that sprinklers do NOT run from 9 p.m. June 18 through 5 a.m. June 19. Following are some other examples of measures that might be helpful:
-
On June 18, finish bathing, dishwashing, clothes washing, etc. before 9:00 p.m.
-
If water service is reduced more than anticipated, storing a little water in buckets will enable such actions as pouring water into toilet bowls to clear contents.
-
You might wish to place a pitcher of water in the refrigerator for drinking, brushing teeth, etc. While it will probably prove to be unnecessary, it is an easy precaution to take.
Residents may also see or hear water being flushed through local hydrants after completion of the work. They also might briefly notice some air in the water afterward. That will pass naturally or water can be run through some faucets for a few minutes to remove the air. Importantly, once this valve is installed, far fewer customers will be impacted by further water system work in this area.
If you have any questions or concerns about this project, please call Customer Service: 541-774-2430 during business hours. As always, our after-hours emergency number (541-779-7611) will also be available if you need to report problems during the night.
We appreciate our customers' patience as we work on making this improvement within this neighborhood.
